FORMER PIRATES INDICTED

On June 26th, an Essex County Grand Jury returned a 29-count indictment against former Pirate basketball players Robert Mitchell, 23, of Brooklyn, and Kelly Whitney, 27, of Chicago, on charges they kidnapped, assaulted, burglarized and robbed eight students at gunpoint in a South Orange home on March 15th. Both face more than 30 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Mitchell transferred from Duquesne in 2007 and was scheduled to graduate in May. Whitney left SHU in 2006 six credits shy of a degree. Arraignment is set for July 23rd.
